CHILDREN'S SIGHT

Children's Sight

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a common condition for kids – 60% of kids are diagnosed with myopia before the age of 20. Early onset is considered anytime under the age of 12. If a child develops myopia at or before 12, they are more likely to develop high myopia which is greater than -5.00

Myopia is a condition where the child’s eyeball is elongated (larger) than it should be. The longer the eyeball grows, the weaker it gets both optically and structurally.

The symptoms are:

  • Blurry vision,
  • The need to squint or partially close the eyelids to see distant objects.
  • Headaches
  • Eye strain
  • And the need for glasses to see far away.

Before, we didn’t have any treatment options for this condition. Now we have an FDA approved treatment lens to slow the abnormal elongation/enlargement of a child’s eye resulting in myopia and high myopia.

MiSight is a daily disposable TREATMENT lens that is FDA approved and specifically designed to control your child’s eyeball from growing TOO large and correct their vision at the same time. It’s a 2 in 1 treatment.

Treating myopia, rather than just correcting vision is now the standard of care for Optometrists due to this new technology. Here at Friedman Optometry, we see kids with Myopia (nearsightedness) every 6 months to monitor their condition.

We make sure kids have healthy vision, not just clear vision.

When we begin treatment, all follow ups and treatment lenses are included, even if you child’s prescription changes. Think of this as “Braces” for your child’s eye, where it keeps it from getting worse, any adjustments needed is included in our program.
